Sekoya were delighted to be asked to attend the recent skills show at the Royal Cornwall Exhibition Centre. What an honour! A chance to speak to young people who are deciding on their future careers. We wanted to inspire them, to look beyond the standard opportunities that present themselves in law.
If you ask a person in the street what they consider a ‘lawyer’ to be, they will tell you – a solicitor or a barrister. We wanted to broaden their horizons and explain that there are many ways into law that are not the traditional route. Kim explained that you can train as a legal executive and once you have passed all of the exams and been accepted onto the role (passing the CILEX entry requirements) you can qualify as a lawyer and then after a few further hoops – qualify as a solicitor. Or perhaps you might wish to study your Legal Practice Course part time and work alongside to gain valuable experience.
Students looked very interested in the alternative routes into the profession and Kim enjoyed inspiring them. We are looking forward to working with the organisers more closely to see how we can inspire our next generation even more either into law or HR!
